Some of you out there may already follow Tim Ferriss or have read one of this books/blogs. A podcast we found interesting was his interview with Adam Grant (an organisational psychologist).
Some of the learnings we took away were:
Tip 1 - Be emotionally stronger and more proactive in receiving feedback
We love the idea of setting up a ‘challenge network’ of key people in your life that could give you ‘unvarnished’ feedback on your strengths, weaknesses and ‘blindspots’. A bit like a mastermind concept.
A mastermind group is a peer-to-peer mentoring concept used to help members solve their problems with input and advice from the other group members.
—Eric Mueller, AltMBA coach
We already get feedback from clients and teammates after projects close, but to gain straight-talking feedback more specifically with people we can be vulnerable with adds an extra dimension to growth.
Tip 2 - Manage distraction
Set aside specific days for producing stuff (e.g. writing) to ensure that your work flows. Don’t feed the resistance!
Tip 3 - Put the hours in
If you want to get better at something, put in the effort and listen to feedback. Getting good at something takes time, often with no shortcuts.
Tip 4 - Don’t postpone a commitment to a future date, unless you are actually going to do it
It’s better just to say no if you can’t do it. Stop trying to please everyone - it’s impossible!
Tip 5 - Be authentic
Showing your work should suit your personality. Don’t try and be someone you are not.
So..
Many of you may often think about productivity and being a better you – there is a lot out there and it would be interesting to hear any top tips that have worked for you. We find that productivity requires incremental change – however our biggest demon is still checking emails too often! Distractions!
